Demise of K. T Cherian, Thoranamvachel
It is with great sorrow that we inform you about the untimely demise of K. T Cherian, Thoranamvachel, Kanakkary ( Taji's father /Thomas Cyriac's father in law). He passed away today. (1/23/2012) Taji will be leaving for India tomorrow. The funeral is planned for Thursday afternoon at St. Thomas Church Ratnagiri. Please remember the departed soul and his family in your prayers.
Mar George Alencherry has been named Cardinal
Mar George Alencherry Major Archbishop of the Syro-Malabar Church has been named Cardinal by Pope Benedict XVI.
The announcement was made simultaenously in Vatican and at Kakkanad St Thomas Mount.
Alencherry was born in Thuruthy, Changanacherry was ordained a priest on 19 November 1972. He studied at the Pontifical Ecclesiastical Seminary of St Joseph in Alwaye and earned a doctorate at the Institut Catholique de Paris, where he specialised in catechesis.
Rev Alencherry was ordained a Bishop on May 29 last year following the passing away of Cardinal Varkey Vithayathil.

We will be celebrating our feast with a melodious Holy mass and a traditional procession followed by a Kerala style dinner and more music. Our bishop, Mar Jacob Angadiath will be joining us for our celebrations on this day. The event (and the dinner) is open for public and is free. Please invite your friends and family and make this a memorable day. This is an opportunity to demonstrate our culture and pass it on to our kids.

Fr. Prince will be blessing the statue of St. Alphonsa during the mass on Sept 25th, 2011. The statue was donated to St. Alphonsa Catholic Church by Sunny Thomas and Family. Mass will be followed by a grand Onam Dinner. Join us for the celebrations at the Dolores Church. Time 4:45 PM.
The Carnatic Music Concert scheduled for Saturday Aug 27th is CANCELLED.
Fr. Paul Poovathingal will celebrate a holy mass with special music for our regularly scheduled Sunday evening mass at 4.30pm at Dolores Catholic Church, 1111 Montopolis Drive, Austin. It will be followed by a short musical program. Please join us on Sunday evening instead.
Mr. E.J Antony, Eluvathingal House passed away
Dear All
It is with great sorrow, I have to inform you all the demise of Mr. E.J Antony, Eluvathingal House, Muringoor Chalakudy, the grandfather of Mr. Anup Josep early Monday morning. He was 92 and the funeral will be held on Wednesday 3:00 pm at Muringoor St.Sebastain's church. Anup will be leaving today for the funeral and expect to be back this Friday. I am extremely sorry for his loss and lets extend our prayers to his family.

Fr. Paul Poovathingal will celebrate the holy mass with special music on Sunday, the 28th (8/28/2011) at 4.45 pm. It will be followed by a short musical program. Please join us on Sunday evening. Fr. Paul Poovathingal (also known as the "Paadum Pathiri") is the first priest to get a Ph.D in Carnatic Music, and is a disciple of Padmabhusan Dr. K J Yesudas and Chandramana Narayanan Namboothiri.
Former Archbishop of Verapoly Archdiocese, Cornelius Elenjikal, died on Sunday

Former Archbishop of Verapoly Archdiocese, Cornelius Elenjikal (93), died on Sunday. He was also the former Bishop of Vijayapuram near Kottayam and had served as the President of Kerala Catholic Bishop Council (KCBC).
The oldest Bishop in Kerala, Elenjikal was a poet and lyricist and had penned several Christian devotional songs.
After serving as the head of the Vijayapuram Diocese for 15 years, the Bishop took charge as the head of the Varappuzha Arch Diocese in 1987 as the successor to Dr. Joseph Kelanthara.
Mariamma Jose, mother of Animon Jose passed away

Condolences to Mr. Cyriac Lukose and family

We are deeply saddened by the sudden death of Mr. Finoy Lukose, nephew of Mr. Cyriac Lukose (Chicago/Austin). He was only 17. Our prayers and thoughts are with him and with those he left behind.
Welcome Ethan & Josh
On 6/25/2011, after the mass, we will be welcoming Ethan (Dhev and Marita's son) and Josh (Salphy and Sinimol's son) to our church. Congratulations to the parents.
Women's Forum Meeting
The monthly family prayer meeting and the Women's Forum Meeting has been planned for Saturday, June 25th and will be held at James & Rajamma Xavier's residence from 3:30 PM to 5:30 PM. All the members of the family are invited to participate in the prayer meeting. We will gather together for an hour of prayer followed by the First Meeting of the Women's Forum. The coordinators for the Women's Forum will be selected in this meeting.
Mr. George Joseph Chullammel passed away

We have the regret to announce the death of Mr. George Joseph, Chullammel (45 years) on June 9th, 2011 at Vazhakkulam. He is survived by his wife and two kids. He was Sister Anit's Nephew. Sr. Anit is an active member of our community and coordinates our youth activities.
The funeral will be on Saturday June 12, 2011. In the name of St.Alphonsa community, we offer the family our sincere condolences. Please remember the family in your prayers.
New Major Archbishop of Syro-Malabar Church Elected
Kochi: Mar George Alencherry, Thakkala Diocese Bishop, has been elected as the new Major Archbishop of Syro-Malabar Church at the ongoing seven-day Syro Malabar Church Bishops synod near here.
The announcement was made simultaneously at Vatican and Kochi Thursday.
The announcement at Kochi was made by Thalassery Diocese Bishop Mar George Valiamattom, who was chairing the synod which began at the church headquarters in Mount St Thomas on May 23.
The post fell vacant following the death of Cardinal Mar Varkey Vithayathil on April 1.
This was the first time that the Synod of 44 prelates was electing the head of the about four million strong Church.
The previous Major Archbishops, Antony Padiara and Varkey Vithayathil were selected by the Vatican as at that time the Syro-Malabar Church was not an autonomous body.
The former Pope John Paul II in 1992 had raised the Syro-Malabar Church to the status of the Apostolic, Indian, Catholic and Eastern (Major Archepiscopal sui iuris (Autonomous) Church of the Saint Thomas Christians.
The installation of the Major Archbishop and the inauguration of the first Synod of the Bishops of the Church was held at Ernakulam on May 20, 1993.
